This week on Everything is Fine

I couldn’t resist running a picture of this week’s guest, the legendary Marlo Thomas, from her way-ahead-of-its-time TV series That Girl. We talk about that show a little, and about her role in the creation of Free To Be You and Me, but mostly we’re chatting here about marriage, and what makes it work, and what she’s learned about it by co-hosting the Double Date podcast with her husband Phil Donahue. Listen in on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, or wherever you get your podcasts. And hey! Why not join our Patreon, where you will find exclusive episodes, shopping news, playlists and more?

“Free to Be” is a common phrase used in our house when something out of the ordinary comes up in conversation. Had to explain the premise to my son and daughter. It really was a groundbreaking special for 70’s television. Plus Marlo continues to be a philanthropic warrior with St.Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Such great work!

Used to watch That Girl with my mom. Loved Marlo’s outfits. Also “Free to be You and Me!” –I still remember some of those songs!

I loved this episode! Marlo Thomas is such a pro – what a great interview she makes. Thoughtful, funny, interesting and eloquent. Listened to a couple of her podcast episodes and it’s like listening to celebrities chat about their relationships over lunch. Loved it!

Oh my goodness, have kept meaning to give these a listen but hated the idea of loading my phone with another app. (So, yeah, I’m late to the podcast game – whatevs.) To my pleasant surprise, these are available on Audible!!! Started from the beginning, and it’s awesome! None of that weirdly self-conscious and/or awkward “we are big girls/boys and we are doing an Important Podcast” vibe AT ALL. (Sort of like the SNL skit with Alec Baldwin as a guest with his “Schwety Balls” or trying so hard to be NPR-aspirational?) Anyhow, great work! Also has been interesting to listen to talk from the beginning of pandemic lockdown.
