Let’s make this L.A. meetup happen

48

I am so excited about doing this, and am trying to get an idea of: 1. How many of you are in, and 2. Which side of town is more convenient—East, West, or somewhere in between? If it was on the East side, we could do it on the 17th or 18th; on the West side, the 20th or 21st. If we do it somewhere in between, all those dates work. And I’m still thinking about venues, so please chime in with suggestions (and thanks to you who have already shared their thoughts—it’s really helpful).

If we meet on Monday the 17th, I would prefer West Hollywood over Culver City.

I’m in Mid City and can meet anywhere – if the get together is in the evening! I work on Monday the 17th, but am free any time after 6:30pm.

Yes, it sounds like Monday is a good bet because of the holiday and (comparatively) lighter traffic. And I’m thinking the suggestion to try for something central, like in West Hollywood, might be the way to go too. Anyone have thoughts as to where we might meet?

      Norah is a great spot — https://norahrestaurant.com/
or Gracias Madre (if it’s warm enough the patio is gorgeous). Kim, are you thinking evening?

Got it. Porto Via in Beverly Hills is another option if folks on the east side are willing to travel a bit further west (parking is easier than in WEHO): https://portaviarestaurants.com/beverly-hills/
They have 2 dining rooms and a very large bar with tables and sofas.

2nd Gracias Madre. Good drinks – good space – and good people watching!

I probably won’t be able to make it, it sounds like. Probably have to work that day, far away. This is not good for *me* but it is fine for the group bc like many an internet loudmouth, I don’t say much in person. (This will surprise no one.) I am an introvert too and *very* dull at parties. Very Deer in Headlights. … para … Just as a fun thought experiment, what if I offered to come drive you around next Friday day or afternoon? This would need to have at least one other GOACA around to work, since I don’t say much and I’d be looking at the road anyway. I am a pretty safe driver, in general. Also, said other GOACA needs to have a nice large, safe, automatic car too, as mine is too small, old (so not many airbags) and, it is having is-sues (I used to know a British lady who said that word in two dramatic parts … try it, it sounds way better that way) We probably won’t end up doing this because there is a high risk of awkwardness, but, it’s still fun to think about. … para … For your meetup, make sure someone comes and picks you up, Kim. Well, unless you want the *full* LA experience, which would mean driving yourself. But why? You’re on vacation. Also, just fyi the subway/light rail here isn’t like New York. I would not recommend taking it at any time which is not rush hour. But you probably already know all of this.

I vote for East Side. (although it’s not the real east side, that’s east of downtown!) Edendale in Silverlake has two huge patios. Brunch, dinner or drinks. https://www.theedendale.com/ That said West Hollywood is a good compromise.

Jeanne! I’m in San Juan, so we can probably figure out a place to meet up and drive together.

Kim – is there any hope for the meet-up to be afternoon not evening? It’s gonna take us a lifetime to get up the 405 in the evening.

Perfect. It will be easy to find a shopping center or a Park and Ride off the 405 in Irvine. I forgot about the traffic. Thankfully we can use the carpool lane although that’s only slightly helpful during rush hour. Hope this comes together!

Suggestion for a lunch or dinner meetup on the 17th: the Sunset Plaza area of West Hollywood has lots of restaurant choices, most with outdoor seating and beautiful views of LA.

I’m in Santa Monica but would drive to the East side!
Massilia on 4th Street is a block from the Expo line, across the street from a large parking structure. It’s a big space and always seems to have space.

While Montana Ave is lovely, I have found parking there very difficult. Also, it’s in Santa Monica which is too far west and won’t work for me.

I vote for Monday the 17th as it’s a holiday and traffic will be “light” by L.A. standards. I’m flexible on Westside or Eastside (I’m on the Westside – near Brentwood). If you want help organizing a location please contact me ([email protected]). Cindy

I’m in! I’m coming from Long Beach so any location is fine with me. Looking forward to it! One other idea…Perch is a gorgeous downtown rooftop bar/restaurant with pleanty of room for a group. There’s a parking garage downstairs on the same block so parking’s not too much of a hassle. (Always a factor when choosing a venue!)

I agree with Monday as a good option, being that it’s a holiday. I’d vote for the West Hollywood area, as it’s sort of the halfway point between the east and west sides, easy to get to over the canyon if coming from the valley.
