An update from bed

97

Well ladies, I managed to contract breakthrough Covid, and—while I’m lucky to have what seems like a pretty mild case—it has knocked me on my ass nevertheless. I’m quarantining at home with the boyfriend, sleeping a whole lot, and sniffing everything that I know has a scent, because I can not smell a thing, and boy do they not warn you about how weird that is. This week’s posts might be on the thin side, but with any luck, I’ll be back full-force next week.

Oh no! Feel better soon! I am terrified of the thought of losing my sense of smell as eating is one of my main leisure activities these days. Hope you can smell all the things soon.

Kim, would you mind sharing here whether you’re vaccinated? It’s so hard these days to gauge risk, and as we come up to the holidays, despite my vaccinated/boosted state, I keep wondering about the risks of gathering. Thank you in advance. I hope you recover swiftly and fully.

So sorry. If there’s any way you can go to a hospital and get an infusion of monoclonal antibodies, that will cure you pronto. I know Mt. Sinai on the UES has that remedy, which is most effective if you get it right away. Feel better.

I hope you can get the infusion. In west michigan where I live, they don’t have it enough. My in-laws got breakthrough cases, but the hospitals don’t have it due to the 4th wave.

i second this! my dad (a very old man) had the infusion at sinai and it really helped his recovery. and this was BEFORE he was vaccinated, so it really made me see how powerful the infusion could be. Feel better, Kim. I hope it’s quick and merciful.

Hugs! I caught it from my son in late August, and the loss of smell was so weird. I could still sort of taste things (especially salt), which seemed impossible. The good news is that it went away within a couple of days. I hope you feel better soon and retain your patience with the constant contract tracer phone calls (I did not).

Don’t worry about us! We’ll keep ourselves busy and amused. We can swap links: “Things we want… until Kim comes back and restores good judgment.” I’m even imagining a contest: “What’s the wackiest thing we bought whilst [that’s for you cw, whilst] Kim was sleeping?” Feel better soon, and please do move slowly once you think you’re recovered — lots of ease and grace.

Hope you feel better soon. Husband and I had the j&j one shot in March. when we had antibody tests in late September our levels had decreased significantly, so we got Moderna booster in late October as soon they advised. It was a 1/2 dose so side effects were minimal…slightly achy and tired next day. 💕
