A note from GOACA HQ

33

Apologies to all of you who’ve had trouble accessing the site over the past couple of weeks—it’s been a bumpier transition post-redesign than might have been ideal, but I’m learning that comes with the territory.  I vastly appreciate all of you hanging in there while we straighten things out. Also, many of you wrote to let me know that you didn’t like Disquis, which was the new commenting system we installed with the redesign. So we’ve switched to another system which I hope you will like better and will find easier to use. Please share your thoughts regarding these issues (or whatever else you’re in the mood to discuss) in the comments. Meanwhile, here’s a picture of me on Sunday, right before I biked 100 blocks to the Museum of the City of New York to see the excellent exhibition of photographs by Stanley Kubrick.

As I said on Instagram earlier––you set a high, high bar when it comes to fashion on a bike!

Saw a woman on the street here in Austin wearing those exact No.6 sandals (not on a bike) and she looked outstanding. Weird how such an unusual color can take on the vibe of a neutral! Sidenote: I bought a leather jacket today––moto style–– in a weird color––plum––and it just works. Let’s hear it for unexpected colors!!

I love all the redos to your site and THANK YOU for getting rid of Disquis!

Are you kidding, C-dub?! Plum is a perfect color for you. I bet that jacket is chic as hell. Also, I think the low-healed version of those excellent No.6’s might be on sale right now. Just sayin’.

As someone who checks in on the site daily but rarely comments, I want to say that it looks great! There have been a few interruptions that present as a security certificate issues so on those days I just close the window and try again the next day. I imagine that posting pictures of yourself is not your favorite thing to do but it’s fun to see you in the mix and you always look great.

you look great kimfrance! & thanks for getting rid of Disquis. i didn’t want to be whiney so i didn’t complain –
    but i found it cumbersome.
as long as we’re talking museums- the Cooper Hewitt as the strongest, most arctic AC i’ve ever experienced.

My husband always nags me to go bike riding in the city, which I hate. My excuse is always “It’s too hot to wear pants and I can’t bike in a dress.” I am hiding this photo from him.

I guess I’m in the minority in saying I liked disqus? It’s in use in a lot of the sites I frequent (Pajiba, Purseblog, etc.) and I think it was very convenient. You can choose to be notified in case someone replies to you, it allows embeds (photos, tweets, etc.), you can edit your comments, you can choose the order in which comments appear as you view them, etc.

Site- related question. Is the “search” option only in the About Me section? Would love to be able to access it in every page. Am I missing it? My brain’s seen better days…

Thank you for dropping disqus! I hated the registration process and couldn’t figure out how not to have both my names show up. I didn’t want to complain (and I would have had to overcome my disqus aversion to do so), but missed being able to pipe up now and then. Also, kudos on the proud display of the helmet! Thanks for normalizing safe, sane bike behavior.

Really like the new site! Practical question about biking in humidity in great clothes: What do you do on the other end to combat the sweaty body situation? Dry off in AC? Do you carry a refresher?

I don’t mind Disqus either, but whatever makes the most people happy is fine by me. Echoing the OMG YOU LOOK INCREDIBLE IN YOUR BIKEY OUTFIT comments — do you get scared biking in NYC traffic?

Right now, fwiw, I can’t heart other people’s comments — it keeps launching an empty window when I try. As for the security certificate issue, the NYPL is having this problem as I type this, so you’re in august company.

YES I do get scared biking in NYC, so I mostly go where there are bike lanes. And we are still having trouble with the like function on the comments, so sorry about that.

Thank you for changing the comment format! Maybe I was just being paranoid, but the terms of service to use it seemed a bit intimidating. Also loving this comment font.

Related, sort of: Do you know if the comments from previous posts will be restored at any time? A lovely reader left some advice that I wanted to revisit and now it seems to have disappeared.

Lastly, echoing everyone else’s comments about that biking outfit too 🙂

Christina, some comments did not make the migration to the new site, but I might be able to rescue them if you let me know what the post in question is.

I’ve read your blog for a while and always wondered about you. Are you my age? What’s been your career path? Have you always lived in the big city? Dumb easy stuff that I just wondered about. Low and behold – the new redesign put your picture front and center and answered my questions. Cool beans!! Thanks for all you do!!

I love this photo of you! I do not love having comments on the top, to me this is weird UX, you finish reading the article and then have to scroll up and click to comment which is not intuitive and takes longer. (I didn’t mind Disqus but understand how others could not prefer it)

Ditto to this comment. I’d like to see the comments icon moved to the bottom of the post rather than the top. My favorite part of the redesign is the size and clarity of the images.

I’ve been reading since the beginning (almost) and love your site. Glad the wrinkles have been ironed out for the most part with the redesign.
Love your outfit for biking. May I ask about the helmet? Hard to find a flattering bike helmet, but, again, you seem to have done it.
    Thank you!
