I’m all in favor of makeup that also has skincare properties—like my Kosas Tinted Face Oil, for instance, which I love. Or, more recently, Miracle Balm from Jones Road*, the new natural beauty line from Bobbi Brown. You can use this stuff as a foundation substitute, or on top of foundation, and it imparts the most natural glow (even the darker hues go on very sheer) and makes your skin feel so supple. The texture is indeed a bit like lip balm, and while I have used it all over my face, what I like it best as is a mid-afternoon face brightener: I rub a bit on my cheeks and feel like I just applied a fresh face of makeup and on top of that had a collagen treatment.
Yes, I now realize I already posted about this product, but I was sick as a dog yesterday with some 24-hour stomach bug type thing, and scrambled to create this post for you while I was still groggy. Please like me anyway.
New discovery is the 19/99 beauty line of multi-tasking pencils. I like their ethos, just looking at their models made me happy so I bought several on a whim a few weeks ago and they don’t disappoint. Makes me remember what makeup represented when I was a teenager, fun, instead of this constant focus on de-aging and disguising (the opposite of fun, ha). So far the brown, the Burgundy, and the golden are my favorites. Beautiful colors and super creamy. https://1999beauty.com
I love supergoop’s Glow Screen all over my face/neck and I just started using Miracle Balm in Dusty Rose on my lips and eyelids. There isn’t strong color with the balm but I wasn’t looking for that. Just a little non-sparkly glow. I also like the Jones Road eyeliner pencil. I’m on the fence about the eye shadows and skin pencils which are a little more work than I want to do.
Using the Tru Botanical face oil for two weeks and my facialist said today “what are you using?” It gives a nice plumping and smooth skin. I use under moisturizer and its a game changer.
I was wondering about that product @Gablesgirl65. It’s a lot less expensive than Vintner’s Daughter which I was also considering, so glad to hear it got your facialist’s seal of approval.
Love the Miracle Balm. I am a fan of Beauty Pie “Superdrops” Brightening Niacinamide. I have sensitive skin and can’t use Vitamin C. This works for me. I’ve noticed a diminishing of brown spots over the course of a few months.
Of course we love you. I love your blog (and podcast)and have followed both for years and years. Also, I’m so glad you finally posted about Jones Road (and I seemed to have missed the previous post on it). I am obsessed with their products! So pretty and easy to use and also clean beauty. Feel better!
I got the Miracle balm over the summer and HATED IT – i just felt it’s stickiness all day. However, I hate to waste things so just started using it again in December – and now I LOVE it – hahaha – maybe my skin just needed to be dry and cracked from the moisture sucking indoor heat
Same. Sticky mess. Couldn’t understand the attraction. Maybe I’ll try again
Same here, too. I’ll give it another shot!
Wow,
No MAC recommendations yet? I am surprised. I really love the Pro Long Wear Paint Pot in Groundwork. I am horrible with eyeliner, and feel like this with a little mascara gives me a natural, and polished look.
We totally love you! Hope you feel better soon.
Loving JVN Nurture Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner. After becoming highly allergic to almost every beauty and skin care product about 5 years ago, this line was a welcome addition to my limited arsenol of products. JVN is Jonathan Van Ness from Queer Eye fame.
I have fair skin and got the Miracle Balm in Magic Hour. There is so little color in the product that I don’t think it matters which shade you order. Unless you really pile it on, it just gives you a nice, moisturized feeling and a pretty glow. I don’t love the sparkles in Magic Hour, but I probably only see them in my magnifying mirror. I smoosh a little Merit Terra Cotta

on my cheekbones too. It’s a similar product, very sheer and glowy. When I sleep at my boyfriend’s house and don’t wanna put makeup on first thing in the morning, the Miracle Balm and Merit blush make me look alive and hopefully fresh. Love the Jones Road mascara too. Feel better, Kim. We like you lots no matter what.
I love the Merit flush balm too – also in terracotta – and I like it a lot. Their lip oil is fantastic too. I had tried another brand’s lip oil and couldn’t stand it. It was just messy. The Merit stuff sinks right in, has discernible color, and is actually moisturizing.
So sorry you’ve had a stomach virus––even if it was only 24 hrs it still sucks. I like what I’m reading about Jones Road even if I still feel far away from ever using anything but moisturizer on my face due to still being masked up.
I’m liking the ILIA multi-stick in Dreamer. It’s the one product so far that has worked on my lips, cheeks, and eyes. I have brown skin, and most “universal” products are not pigmented enough to show up on me, but this one works. Its perfect when I feel lazy but still want to achieve a put-together look, which is most days.

Not sure if I read about this product from your commenters, a likely case, but I’ve been using The Ordinary squalene cleanser this winter to clean my face and remove makeup before bed and it’s been great. Leaves my face feeling soft. If my skin has been really dry, I then pat on a few drops of The Ordinary squalene oil, which helps. I’ve also been using the oil on my dry and weak nails, which seems to be making a difference. Feel better, Kim. That stomach virus was going around here (Va.) last month. Nasty stuff.
Love love love The Ordinary squalene products.
Kim,
I hope you feel better — stomach ailments are the worst! Now a beauty question for you — have you found a dupe for the Becca green anti fatigue eye stuff? They went out of business –so sad.
It’s still early in the bottle, but I am loving Prestidge Ageless Skin Serum. I’ve long been been a fan of their Lip Repair Balm and decided to take the plunge and try the serum.
Hope you feel better soon! Silk Naturals bakuchiol serum has caused no irritation: I don’t know yet its impact, but something not irritating my sensitive skin is a big deal. All the other bakuchiol serums contained other ingredients that would irritate my skin. Also, I have been enjoying Nemat Vanilla Musk and Tangee lipstick, both containing feel-good scents for me at this time of year.
Merit cream cheek color in Beverly Hills. Light and bendable and natural. Kosas airbrow (thanks to Kim!), as well as the Kosas eyebrow pencil and their powder.
And feel better!!
Hello!
I’m very curious about the Jones Road Miracle Balm. What “colour” do you use? Hard to get in Canada (and very pricey after shipping, duty & exchange rates) so I’m nervous ordering online.
I’d love to order too, but haven’t for the very same reasons you mentioned. Not Canada-friendly at all .
I emailed them a photo of my face sans makeup and asked for color recommendations for all of the products and they were so helpful!
Wow – that’s terrific! I’ll do same (and hope lighting is good!).
My recent favorite is the Tower 28 lip + cheek cream blush. I have it in magic hour, which is a brownish rose. I am very, very pale, but I don’t have cool undertones, which it seems that most cosmetic companies assume all pale people do. It was gratifying to find something that worked for me as far as color is concerned, but it’s also super easy to use and is just opaque enough to make a difference.
Hard agree on the Tower 28 cream blush. Magic Hour might look dark but it works for me and I’m pale. It is the PERFECT lip color and then I use whatever’s left on my fingers on my cheeks. I also use the darkest Tower 28 cream bronzer as an eye shadow. And don’t get me started their Beauty SOS spray, which banishes all bumps and redness anywhere. Also great on bugbites!
Neutrogena Triple Age Repair Moisturizer, I bought 3 jars to stock up just in case. It gives your skin an amazing glow, all day, sinks into your skin, keeps it supple all day, brightens up as well and it has SPF 25. Best thing ever. Drugstores or Amazon.
Thanks for this rec, Debra! I recently returned to Neutrogena for their ultra hydrating eye gel. I alternate it with Ole Hendrickson banana eye creme.
I also love Glow’s avocado eye mask and Murad’s spf moisturizer with vitamin c.
Please like you?! You’re assuming we are all cogent enough to remember that you already posted about this! Lord knows I’m not…..
Thanks, Heather. Glad to know I’m not alone.
I know this is not new to the group, but I finally pulled the trigger on NeuBrow and after 20 years of skimpy brows due to chemo, over plucking and aging, I have the most AMAZING brows again. And they are black. And with my newly natural grey, they are really dramatic. Run, don’t walk to your computer and buy this product. Thanks Kim. Feel better.
Hi, I also have thin brows due to cancer treatment — I bought the neubrow and no results — I’m only three weeks in — did it take longer than that for you to see results?
I would say it took about a month to see real results. Like every beauty product everywhere, some people seem to have better results than others. I’m usually in the “see no improvement” camp, which is why this blew me away. Good luck. Before I started using this I used the Bobbie Brown brow product that goes on with a mascara like brush and it worked really well giving me back some color.
Same post cancer sitch, Bobby. I’ve been super happy with Nature’s Bounty hair, Skin, Nails gummies. Brows and lashes have come back beautifully. You can get them at Target or any drugstore. And the Anastasia brow powder worked wonders, especially with her amazing eyebrow brush, to tide me over in the meantime. Good luck!
Thanks! Going to check them out now.
I love the Oak Essentials moisture Rich Balm and the Jones Road Miracle Balm in Bronze!
I finally went for Oaks Essentials after the ads had been stalking me for MONTHS and my dry winter skin is in LOVE.
We like you anyway!! Feel better.
It’s not a new product but it is to me. Good old German Nivea creme in the blue metal tin. I have been using it on my parched hands at bedtime and it works a miracle.
Love the German Nivea as well! Truly remarkable stuff. I was recently delighted to recently find the jumbo sized tub at a pharmacy on Manhattan Ave in Greenpoint for 10 bucks.
Loving the Miracle Balm (I use the Dusty Rose and have medium-toned skin)- it makes my skin feel so nice and moisturized. I am also a fan of the Jones Road mascara, face pencils and eyeshadows. I love that she uses a few older models (including herself) to show how to use the products and how to match our skin tones!
How did you know what shade/color to buy of the balm? It appears other than NYC only sold on line?
I love Supergoop’s Play sunscreen. Not sure how new it is … but it’s a recent addition to my sunscreen arsenal.
I was obsessing over Dick Page’s work in the 90s, and he recommended using a lipstick on cheeks (and a dab on the nose) for that super fresh-faced Kate Moss look. I went to the drugstore and got a couple of Maybelline lipsticks in red and plum, and a HUGE tub of Vaseline that cost like $6. I scribble a bit of lipstick on my hand, then blend it with a dab of Vaseline, and pronto – instant sheer glowy blush! You can adjust the intensity and use whatever shade you want – pink, peachy… It really looks great and costs almost nothing.
hope you’re all better!
One of my favorites is Iris and Romeo’s Best Skin Days, a 5-in-1 that is a serum, moisturizer, sunscreen, and light foundation coverage. And they’ve recently expanded the number of shades available.
Drunk Elephant O-Bloos Rosi drops and RapidLash/RapidBrow are delightful new additions – the Rosi drops provide a lovely pop of lifting color, which makes my olive skin seem/feel less washed out in the Zoomiverse. I saw surprising results with RapidLash within a week, RapidBrow within three.
