If left to its own devices, my hair is corkscrew-curly, which is a look I love on others (and even liked on my younger self) but not on me. So I blow it out every few days, and smooth it with a curling iron on days I don’t wash it, and all of this leaves said hair pretty fried. I ran out of the conditioner I’ve been loyally using for years, and tried this stuff, which my hairdresser Sija gave me. And, people: nothing I’ve ever tried on my hair has made it look as positively healthy and silky as this does.
My daughter has used their scalp shampoo for a while now. It really does help balance the skin on the scalp and get rid of flakes. Good to know about their conditioner.
You are just the cutest in that old pic, Kim!
Thanks, Val!
No offense, but it was far more flattering than her hair style now.
JA, I’d suggest that you not say “no offense” when your intention clearly was to offend. Also—and you’re of course free to prefer whatever you want—I was about 26 when that picture was taken, so I’m not surprised you find it more flattering!
Seriously, that was so rude, and stupid. First of all you look great now, too, Kim. Secondly, we ALL had different hair and faces in our 20s. I certainly have like a third of the volume of hair I had in my 20s and if I were to wear my hair as long as it was back then, it’d be a stringy mess. I have no idea why people have such urges to be cruel.
Accidental like! I can’t cancel it! Boooo on this comment!
I agree. Her curly hair couldn’t have been cuter.
I have been using this condition for years … originally heard about it from a Lucky Magazine shoutout! And then the caftan/kaftan post yesterday, definitely feeling on the GOCA wavelength this week.
I like to hear people’s hair stories. Great photo!! I used to pay good money to try to get my hair to do that. It figures, right? … … … So do you rinse that out, or is it leave-in?
Ah, I see it is to be rinsed out. Sounds good.
Ooh, this is cheaper than my personal hair savior, Shu Uemura’s shampoos and conditioners, so I’ll have to try it out. I have straight hair, but it’s been pretty dry and frizzy lately.
Super love Sachajuan!! I cannot live without the scalp shampoo and pretty much live in fear that I won’t be able to find it one day.
I went to the hair salon for the first time in three years the other day and both me and my hair have been positively buoyant since. Sometimes I think, for women, it’s all in the hair. Side note: this was my first time at this particular salon. When I drove up and realized it was in a strip mall I almost left without going in and once inside I almost turned around and left because what greeted me upon entry was a rack of pink background leopard print bedazzled tees. But I stayed and the stylist gave me the best haircut I’ve had in years. Shame on me for being such a snobby snobber. I gave her a big tip, a good google review and booked my next appointment to appease my guilt.
Would you be willing to share the stylist ‘s name??
Absolutely!! Her name is Veronica Williams at Duality Salon.
CW, where do you live? I’m hoping you say Los Angeles, because I am looking for a new salon!
Sorry, Jen, I’m in Austin. Google “curly hair salons Los Angeles” and then look for someone who has a Master Cut certification in dry cutting. I know this sounds complicated, but it’s worth the rabbit hole trouble.
OMG also in NW Austin with curly hair! It would be amazing to not have to drive to Sunset Valley for a haircut…
Hi Jen! I’m in LA and have a couple good recs if you have curly hair.
Ooh me too! Was just looking on IG last night!
Hi Rebecca! I have wavy hair, not curly, but would love a good rec!!
Check out Brianna at Striiike (in BH). My other hair love is Sabina Yanone. She doesn’t live in LA at the moment but comes every few months to see clients. I love them both. I started seeing Brianna when I was in desperate need of a cut and Sabina was not in town for a bit. Feel free to DM me on instagram (@bravermundo) if you want more info/hair chat!
cw, three years! Whooo! You beat me– I waited just two years and two months in between haircuts. I went to someone new and I was also terrified! And it also turned out fantastic! Whooo! Good hair for all!
The Seaweed Bath Co. conditioners are really great. I splurged on a bottle of their hydrating conditioner on a whim and have purchased it many times since. A little goes a long way so a bottle lasts me a while. I’ve got fine, long hair so I only put in on from the ears down but it has really improved the health and shine of my hair. It’s especially great in dry winters and they have formulas for all hair types.
I reeeeeally need to try this stuff out. Like you, Kim, I have curly hair which misbehaves regularly. It has so many different kinds of textures, too, that I swear it has an identity crisis. I’m 47 and still am unable to style my hair consistently. Plus, I get a knot only on the right side towards the back which doesn’t seem to correlate with anything I do since I sleep on both sides. Lastly, I love love love that pic of you from your Sassy days.
