I never located a foundation that was the perfect match for my skin tone until I tried Glossier’s Perfecting Skin Tint, which goes on ultra-light, costs a pretty reasonable $26, comes in 12 shades—mine is G8—and is perfect for those days when you want a little coverage but don’t want to look all made up, which is most of the time these days, right?
I adore Skin Tint! It really does even you out and make you look a little prettier. Or better rested. Or something.
Glossier doesn’t like Black people.
Oh I didn’t know that! Hard pass, then. Thanks
Can you cite a source on that – I don’t know about this issue. Thanks!
Or you could google it. https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/18/tech/glossier-apology-retail-workers/index.html

Did you read the cnn piece? I did. If I were a Glossier customer, which I am not since I am too lazy to do much skincare, nothing in it would have made me less likely to buy it. The specific incidents in the piece mostly involved *customers.* Otherwise it just mentions garden variety workplace *potential* unfairnesses (Ie, I did not see allegations of unequal pay… maybe that is on tweeter somewhere, I have no idea…), and the employees have rightly raised the issues – as they should – and the company is dealing with them. … … … So, I don’t understand the problem. Without having to go down a rabbithole, which I am unwilling to do, timewise – I think it is a bit much to expect people to boycott based on stuff like this. Very little in life is perfect, and this employer says they are listening. What exactly do people think is supposed to happen?
Not that I don’t heart you, Kimbersam, bc I totally doooooo. I am just a bit baffled. Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.
I know a Glossier staff employee, and I am skeptical about their “listening.” I’m in tech and see casual racism and misogyny every day, so when I see it, I call it out and boycott. If it doesn’t bother you then it doesn’t. No expectations that others do the same or that they should research every product they buy, just responding to Emily.
I agree it’s very important to complain about mistreatment – it’s the only way to fix things. I also think that humans have trouble getting along in most if not all workplaces, and that good management tends to be the exception. Especially in HR departments, which are usually too afraid of offending management, execs, or shareholders, imo. I also think that if someone disagrees with me, it doesn’t mean they didn’t “listen.” It could mean they just don’t agree. I’m not sure why this all bothers me, maybe because I feel like it is close to libelous to call a company racist on so little evidence. Which isn’t to say that all people and all corps here in the US aren’t to some degree racist – we all probably are. But then, why single these people out? That’s the part I don’t get. Bad management is everywhere. I can’t think of anything more important to work on – but, what a strange way to go about it.
Here’s an interesting instagram run by former Glossier staffers mentioning their various concerns. https://www.instagram.com/outtathegloss/?hl=en
Thank you, Margaret, I will take a look. I shouldn’t let these debates bother me so much – it is the middle of all these processes so it is bound to be a little chaotic. I worry a little bit about our public discourse in this country – about our rhetorical and argumentative skill set, that is – and whether we will move the ball forward (except in our policing where I do believe we will make progress and reach better understanding for all) – but, otoh, it will probably all work out well in the end. I think I will go watch an old episode of Oprah now and metaphorically suck my thumb. Well after the insta that is.
Just read about it…thank you.
Won’t be ordering any more of their product.
Yah, I remember when that garbage was going on (and it still probably is) over at Into the Gloss/Glossier. Really, really terrible.
I love Trinny London BFF DeStress…light but enough coverage, and my skin looked great at the end of the day.
I had it before they reformulated with more options and I loved it then. Time to try it again!
My current shade of Laura Mercier is not working anymore…so I’ll check it out
Just ordered one, and reordered my glossier moisturizer, which I love already. (Didn’t like the lips and eye sticks that much.)
Looks great and has great reviews. I wish they would sell little samplers though. Is it sheer enough that I could just take a good guess?
That’s what I did, Simone. It’s pretty sheer.
What a great idea! I’d pay to purchase a little range of a 3 to 5 samples, so I could find a match. I’ve heard such great things, and I know Glossier is good with returns, but buying foundation by mail has always held me back. Currently, I’m using the Kosas face oil. I didn’t like it at first, but if you combine it with a hyaluronic acid serum, it’s better. Excuse me, that’s not correct. Currently, I use no foundation, because I don’t leave the house. But on the very rare occasion, I use the Kosas and serum combo :).
Skin Tint over Glossier’s FutureDew is the best morning regimen.
I concur. My skin loves Future Dew.
Just placed my first order!
Laura Mercier was acquired by Shiseido in 2016.
I have two shades (G10, G11) of the tint and quite like it. (I prefer the LOOK of the Ilia Skin Tint, but my God it STINKS. A cross between cinnamon and poop.)
The concealer is fine for about 2 minutes then it slips and slides everywhere. I also like the jelly cleanser and Future Dew and have re-purchased both. The blushers…I just can’t seem to find a shade that works for me. But texture and application-wise, just fine.
Hi Kim – I hope your move went well! Off topic, but I would love to see a post after the holidays about what everyone’s favorite gifts were. Take care!
I hope your move was not impeded by the snow!
I tried skin tint and concealer and they were OK, but not great. I guess my skin needs more coverage than skin tint. Their skincare line didn’t do anything for me either.
Laura Mercier is owned by Alticor(Amway brand, Betsy Devos, super conservative, etc.), but I am sure there are webs of money from all places that we don’t know who invests/owns where.
Oops! Originally replied to the wrong comment. But FYI, Laura Mercier was acquired by Shiseido in 2016.
LM is owned by DeVos? Ugh. That’s my go to brand.
Glossier is not available in EU.
I like “Avène Couvrance Make Up Fluid” which is an oilfree and super light product. It’s sold in the pharmacy.
For my skin tone I mix the colors 1.0 and 2.0 in different amounts, depending on the time of the year (summer/winter).
