Department of things I never thought I’d DIY

21

When I saw Flamingo’s bikini wax kit on my friend Andrea’s blog a while back, I was intrigued: prior to Covid, I’ve never in my life even contemplated attempting to wax my own bikini line—precision is not my strong suit, and self-waxing seems to require it—but strange times call for all sorts of firsts. So I put in an order for one (which costs a very reasonable $10), and was not disappointed. The wax strips come in three different shapes—the better to accommodate whatever shape you want your remaining hair to take—and don’t require heating, so the whole process is quite tidy. And—as long as you remember to hold your skin taut—it works really well, though you may have to go over the same spot more than once to remove everything. Next up for me: Flamingo’s face-waxing kit, to get rid of those scary, inch-long chin hairs that seem to sprout overnight.

Ordering the face strips. I have a deep, deep fear of chin hairs.

I’ve made my girls promise to pluck my chin when I’m in the nursing home!

Good for you for picking up a new skill! People, let me know if you want tips bc I know of some. Maybe it is all in the package directions though.

(TMI) I’ve let the nethers go wild. However, while I don’t have chin sprouts, I do have some dark ‘stache hairs and my brows have reached nutty professor proportions. Unfortunately, because I use Retin-A, I can’t wax.

I’ve done my own waxing for years. It’s quick, easy, and cheap.

My new stay-at-home DIY skill is doing my own gel nails. I didn’t even wear gels before but…here we are!

One of the best things I ever did was get my bikini line layered! I don’t miss waxing at all. It was so easy and painless. Haven’t had to do much of anything for 10 years.

I am assuming you meant lasered but “layered” is just hysterical 😀 Hee

Here I was, thinking that you’d engaged in some sort of fancy “hairdo.” 🙂

I’ve also started waxing my bikini and my underarms! It;s not to awful, and it’s easy to do at home. I used Nair strips on the advice of staff at Bigelow and also on their advice I bough men’s beard dye and dyed my eyebrows!

I’ll have to give the Flamingo bikini line strips a shot. I didn’t have much luck with the facial ones. They didn’t pull anything off for me so I’m looking forward to your report. Maybe I got a bad box. I’ve done quite well at taking care of my cuticles in all this. Also never thought I’d use a facial spray but wow, Avene Thermal Water Mist has done amazing things for my skin. I spray twice a day and when it’s just barely damp, I apply lotion etc.

Avene mist is wonderful. The after-sun gel is nice, too.

Beware, even an OTC retinol serum can cause skin to lift when waxing. I was glad to be wearing a mask for about a week.

My Braun epilator has been a wonderful discovery of this era. I only use it on legs & chin, though. I only address my nether reasons on the 2 days a year I find myself in a swimsuit. Otherwise, anyone who’s getting an eyeful of that zone should be thinking “Wow, I am one lucky guy” rather than “hmmm… looks a little unkempt.”

regions, not reasons…. although sometimes the nether does seem to have its own reasons…
